A psychoeducational assessment helps understand how children/teens learn by evaluating areas of strength and need. Cognitive, memory, academic, fine motor, and attentional/emotional functioning (if relevant) are examined to guide recommendations for how to support youths’ learning.
Fee: $4000
All testing is completed in English.

Please be aware that if a psychoeducational assessment is requested, the test administration will be conducted by either a psychologist or a psychometrist under a psychologist’s supervision. The intake, interpretation/report writing and feedback are completed by a psychologist. These services are typically covered under insurance benefits as "psychological services," but we advise checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage.
All assessments include a thorough review of background information, review of relevant documentation, collection of information through questionnaires and/or interviews (if applicable), administration of standardized assessment measures with psychologist and/or psychometrist, interpretive feedback session to review the results with parents and/or youth, and a comprehensive report. Assessments can result in one or more diagnoses, but do not always.
In private practice, psychological services are not covered by provincial health insurance (OHIP) but are covered by most extended health plans. The psychologist bills the patient directly and they are provided with a receipt that can be submitted to an insurer for reimbursement. It is important to check with your insurer to obtain details regarding the amount and type of coverage you have, and what information they need from you to be reimbursed. When insurance plans only provide limited coverage, receipts may be tax deductible for any remainder when you have a physician referral.

A gifted assessment helps us identify whether children/teens present with intellectual scores falling well above the expected level for their age (i.e., in the “gifted” range). Gifted testing includes intellectual and academic testing and recommendations are provided based on the results. Note, results do not guarantee admission into any particular gifted programs since schoolboards determine their own eligibility criteria.
